Cast-In Heaters Make Filter For Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) Treatment Possible

Problem:

A company engaged in Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) treatment was designing a unique in-line filtration system. The objective was to heat and cool the filter from ambient to 500°F (260°C) and back to ambient in one hour.

Solution:

While several CAS heaters and controllers were ultimately used throughout this device, the challenge of heating and cooling the filter demanded an unconventional approach. The solution was a cast-in heater containing a tubular heating element and tubes for coolant. On-site engineering, backed with factory engineering support, helped design the cast-in heat/cool platen that resulted in a fully machined and assembled "heated part." The finished design contained a custom flange, over one hundred precision-drilled holes and flatness tolerances maintained over 36 in. (90 cm) long front and back surfaces. To complete the thermal system, CAS also supplied the appropriate temperature and power controller.

The completed "heated part" reduced the number of components the customer would have had to secure or fabricate and assemble. And by supplying the temperature controllers, sensors, power controllers as well as heaters, CAS provided the customer one contact that takes responsibility for the entire thermal loop. Once tested and approved, CAS was certified for ship-to-stock.
